AOTS Training in Japan 2009

A  2-week training programme on “Management & Implementation of  Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy for Malaysia” was once again jointly organised by the Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS), Japan and TEEAM from 9th to 20th November 2009 at AOTS Yokohama Kenshu Centre (YKC), Yokohama, Japan.

AOTS Japan is a non-profit association that runs with Japanese government subsidies from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).  The programme was aimed to enhance the competitiveness of the manufacturing industry in Malaysia by introducing know-how for the promotion of energy efficiency in factories.

The programme covered the following lectures:

  • Current situation of energy saving activities in Japan (by Mr Kazuo Aizaki, General Manager, Ai Engineer Office)
  • Power management & electrical facilities (by Dr Shunji Ichida, Doctor of Engineering, Engineer Electric)
  • Thermal technology (by Mr Masatoshi Kakegawa)
  • Lighting & air conditioning (Mr Takashi Suzuki, Representative Director, Suzuki Technical Consulting Ltd)
  • Current situation and utilisation of new energies (Mr Shotaro Okano,  Executive Engineer, the Office of Professional Engineer)
  • Energy saving diagnosis (by Mr Kazuo Aizaki, General Manager, Ai Engineer Office)

Some sixteen trainees were selected from sixteen companies, namely Avefume Consultant, Cement Industries of Malaysia Berhad, CQ-Tec Sdn Bhd, Dipsol (M) Sdn Bhd, EITA Technologies (M) Sdn Bhd, Five H Associates Sdn Bhd, Kejuruteraan Elektrik Usahamaju Sdn Bhd, Kejuruteraan Letrik  Evershine Sdn Bhd, Megalux Lightings Sdn Bhd, Negeri Sembilan Cement Industries Sdn Bhd, Novabrite Lighting Sdn Bhd, PKV Consulting Engineers Sdn Bhd, Selia-Tek Industries Sdn Bhd, Sg Harmoni Sdn Bhd, Furutec Electrical Sdn Bhd and KPH Property Management Services Sdn Bhd.

The trainees had the opportunity to visit the following Japanese buildings and plants:

  • TEPCO Thermal Storage System Technical Centre
  • Hiroshima Plant, ELPIDA Memory, Inc
  • Campo Recycle Plaza
  • Panasonic Centre Tokyo Case studies were conducted on energy saving improvements.

The programme was very informative and beneficial to the trainees as they were acquainted with effective approaches and managerial techniques to promote energy efficiency with in-dept understanding of environmental management.
