TEEAM Diamond Jubilee Dinner

Posted on 22nd January 2013 09:50 AM | News and Event

On 8th September 2012, TEEAM celebrated its Diamond Jubilee Dinner at One World Hotel, Petaling Jaya, Selangor with the theme, “TEEAM 60 years of Transformation” which highlighted TEEAM’s transformation and teamwork over the years. YBhg Datuk Loo Took Gee, Secretary General of KeTTHA who represented the Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water, YB Dato’ Sri Peter Chin Fah Kui, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.

A special photography session with unlimited shots was hosted by TEEAM to entertain the dinner guests and members at the foyer while waiting for the VIPs to arrive. There were full of actions at the photography corner which was most exciting and memorable.

To commemorate the 60th anniversary, the dinner began with a video presentation of “TEEAM 60 Years of Transformation” which captured the most treasured memories and achievements of the association since its formation. In his welcome speech, the Organising Chairman, Ir Steven Ng Khoon Hwa who is also the TEEAM Deputy President, thanked and appreciated every effort made by the Organising Committee Members, supporters and all generous sponsors in making this auspicious occasion a resounding success.

In his address, TEEAM President Engr Fu Wing Hoong highlighted TEEAM’s wish list to YBhg Datuk Loo in view of the coming budget meeting. The wish list of TEEAM includes:

  • Propose the government to provide up to 90% incentive for the next 3 years for all SMEs to carry out energy audit exercise in preparing them for the coming implementation of the Energy Efficiency & Conservation Law (EE & C Law) expected to come into force by end 2013 or early 2014. This will enable them to be energy efficient in their operation, reduce operation cost, and help government in achieving the target of EE goals and cut global warming/ reduce Malaysia’s carbon emission;
  • Propose the government to reduce personal and corporate tax to 23%. Our Thailand counterpart trade association informed that Thailand will be reducing their corporate tax to 23% in their coming Budget. Singapore corporate tax is currently at 17% and Hong Kong 15%;
  • Propose the government not to wait for the implementation of GST before the reduction of corporate tax. Malaysia’s competitiveness is fast deteriorating if Thailand reduces their corporate tax ahead of Malaysia. Malaysia might fast lose out in both FDI as well as LDI;
  • To further boost domestic consumption and help private SMEs to innovate and to move up the value chain, the government could play an important role by introducing policies such as ‘Buy Malaysia 1st’ or buy quality products by quality specification instead of naming company in their purchasing policy. TEEAM hopes KeTTHA will support the effort of TEEAM in requesting MOF to abolish the MOF lighting circular PKP 7/2010 which specifies that all purchasing must be supplied through the companies named in the circular; and
  • Propose the government to allocate some funding to help Trade NGOs such as

TEEAM in areas where the government is not able to play effectively. TEEAM hopes to play a role in helping the government in market surveillance to ensure trade rules and regulations are more efficiently implemented. Therefore, TEEAM suggests that the government, through KeTTHA or directly, could help to provide full funding to TEEAM in order to work with relevant agencies to carry out market surveillance. YBhg Datuk Loo Took Gee conveyed the greetings of YB Dato’ Sri Peter Chin Fah Kui, Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water who was unable to attend due to unforeseen circumstances and proceeded to deliver the Minister’s keynote address. In the Minister’s text, it was highlighted
