A 16-member TEEAM Business VIP Delegation, led by Immediate Past President Ir. Chang Yew Cheong, explored smart city innovations at the Taiwan Smart City Summit & Expo (SCSE) and Net Zero City Expo 2026, held from 17 to 20 March 2026 at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Centre. Organised by the Taipei Computer Association (TCA), the annual Expo is one of Asia’s leading Smart City events, bringing together Government agencies, technology providers, industry leaders and business communities from around the world to showcase innovative solutions and foster international collaboration in smart city development.
The participation provided TEEAM members with an excellent platform to gain insights into emerging technologies, explore business opportunities and strengthen regional partnerships in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), digital transformation, smart infrastructure, sustainable cities and intelligent energy solutions.
MatchMadeAsia: Taiwan, ASEAN, India AI-Powered Business Forum
A key highlight of the programme was the MatchMadeAsia: Taiwan, ASEAN, India AI-Powered Business Forum, held on 18 March 2026. The forum focused on enhancing economic cooperation and technology partnerships between Taiwan, ASEAN member countries and India, particularly in leveraging AI to accelerate industrial growth and smart city development. Delegates had the opportunity to hear insightful opening remarks from distinguished guests, who shared valuable perspectives on regional collaboration, AI-driven innovation, digital transformation strategies and the growing opportunities for cross-border partnerships between Taiwan, India and the ASEAN region.
Welcome Address by Dr. Chen-Yu Lee
Dr. Chen-Yu Lee, CEO of the International Cooperation Centre, Taipei Computer Association (TCA), welcomed delegates and expressed his appreciation to the distinguished speakers and participants from Taiwan, ASEAN countries and India for their strong support. He highlighted that the MatchMadeAsia Forum has evolved into an important platform for cross-border business networking and technology collaboration, leading to numerous partnerships, investments and innovation projects over the years. Dr. Lee emphasised that, in the era of AI-driven transformation, closer regional cooperation is essential to unlock new business opportunities and strengthen innovation ecosystems across Asia.
Malaysia’s Smart City and Digital Transformation Journey
Representing the Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre (MFTC), President Ms. Aznifah Abdul Ghani shared Malaysia’s progress in digital transformation and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with Taiwan and regional partners. She highlighted Malaysia’s record trade performance, particularly in the electrical and electronics (E&E) sector, and noted that Taiwan remains one of Malaysia’s key trading partners. She explained that Malaysia’s New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030and National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) provide a strong foundation for cooperation in smart city solutions, AI innovation, smart manufacturing and green technologies. Ms. Aznifah also shared Malaysia’s expanding smart city initiatives, including AI-driven traffic management, smart agriculture and predictive disaster management systems, while positioning Malaysia as a strategic gateway to the ASEAN market of over 660 million people.
Thailand’s Vision for AI and Digital Economy
Mr. Naroong Boonsatheanwong, Executive Director of the Thailand Trade and Economic Office, emphasised Thailand’s commitment to accelerating digital transformation and AI adoption as key drivers of economic growth. He highlighted Thailand’s investments in AI, cybersecurity, robotics, cloud computing and data centres, supported by the expansion of clean energy infrastructure to meet future industrial needs. He also noted Thailand’s growing role as a regional AI and digital infrastructure hub and welcomed greater collaboration with Taiwan in technology, innovation and business development, positioning Thailand as a gateway for Taiwanese companies seeking to expand into ASEAN. He concluded by reaffirming Thailand’s commitment to facilitating regional partnerships and supporting future business collaborations.
Regional Collaboration in the AI Era
Mr. James Liu, Chairman of the ASEAN Society, spoke on the importance of regional collaboration amid rapid technological transformation. He noted that AI, advanced manufacturing and digital platforms are reshaping global industries and supply chains. He highlighted the complementary strengths of the participating regions—Taiwan’s leadership in semiconductors and advanced manufacturing, ASEAN’s rapidly expanding digital economy, and India’s expertise in software development and digital innovation. He encouraged delegates to leverage the networking platform to exchange ideas, establish partnerships and create new opportunities for innovation and market expansion.
B2B Matchmaking Session
Following the forum, TEEAM delegates participated in a series of Business-to-Business (B2B) Matchmaking Sessions, where they met with Taiwanese companies specialising in AI, smart technologies, automation, electronics, renewable energy, information and communication technologies (ICT), and industrial digitalisation.
The business meetings enabled delegates to exchange ideas, discuss potential collaborations and explore opportunities for technology transfer, strategic partnerships, distributorships and future business ventures. The sessions also provided valuable networking opportunities with industry leaders and solution providers seeking to expand their presence in the ASEAN market and beyond.
Touring the Exhibition
The delegation toured all the exhibition halls featuring hundreds of exhibitors presenting the latest advancements in Smart City technologies.
Members explored innovative solutions encompassing AI, Internet of Things (IoT), smart energy management, smart transportation, intelligent buildings, cybersecurity, healthcare technologies, environmental sustainability and digital Government services. The exhibition provided valuable exposure to cutting-edge technologies and practical applications that could contribute to Malaysia’s ongoing digital transformation and sustainable urban development.
The delegation also interacted with exhibitors to gain deeper insights into emerging industry trends and technological developments while identifying potential solutions relevant to the Malaysian market.
