TEEAM is taking the initiative to conduct a national campaign on self-test Residual Current Circuit Breaker (RCCB) at home. Electrical appliances run with inherent risk of electricity leakage either due to wear & tear, malfunction, and/or improper installation. RCCB is the safety device that prevents electrocution by cutting off electricity supply immediately upon detecting any leakage in an electrical circuit. A survey conducted by Energy Commission of Malaysia (ST) in 2013 showed that a majority 64% of the respondents were unsure how to test RCCB.
Themed “Be Safe, Self-Test Your RCCB Today!”, the safety campaign aims to raise awareness among the public on the need for regular self-testing of RCCBs. The objective of the safety campaign is to have one million homes in Malaysia self-tested their RCCB by May 2015. The safety campaign was successfully launched by Datuk Ir Ahmad Fauzi Hasan, CEO of Energy Commission on 10th June 2014, during the ASEAN M&E Show 2014 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
This campaign will run for 12 months, until May 2015 and will include a variety of initiatives and events such as public service announcement, roadshows, demo units of RCCBs, exhibitions, photo contest, website and engagement with the public through social media.
The campaign is also supported by Energy Commission, Tenaga Nasional Berhad and Malaysian Association of Standards Users. TEEAM wish to thank all sponsors: ABB, Alpha Automation (Sel), Hager, Maxguard, Terasaki, Utama Switchgear, 988 Radio Station and 180 Degrees Brandcom for strong support.
