11th April 2020 – YAB PM has announced yesterday the need for an Extended Movement Control Order (MCO) from 15th April 2020 to 28th April 2020 to contain the outbreak of COVID-19. The Government through the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) has engaged with various stakeholders including business and industry associations, SMEs, and other relevant Ministries and agencies, including MOH and the MKN, to identify and review additional economic sectors that could be allowed to operate. This measure is to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on the Economy and Labour Market.
TEEAM attended a session of MITI Meeting with Industry Associations/Chambers where Dato Lokman Hakim Ali, Secretary General of MITI briefed the audience of the current development and acknowledged the challenges faced by our E&E industries. MITI viewed both essential business and business sustainability are important. TEEAM has highlighted that many of our E&E members are supporting essential industry.
Through the Media Release by YB MITI Senior Minister on 10th April 2020, the Government has decided to allow several additional economic sectors to operate in phases on condition of strict adherence to health and safety guidelines. MITI has provided details of additional sectors authorised to operate as per Annex 1 of the said Media Release which is shared with this advisory.
Members in the additional sectors listed can submit your application to MITI beginning Monday, 13th April 2020, from 9.00 am. All applications must be made online at MITI at www.miti.gov.my. Members are to note that you MUST APPLY to MITI for approval before resuming business operation.
Companies in the sectors that are allowed to operate must comply with the requirements of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and adhere to guidelines by MOH and MKN.
