TEEAM hosts and facilitates the Secretariat of the Malaysia CIE (International Commission of Illumination) National Committee (NCCIE). While NCCIE is the governing council of CIE Malaysia Chapter, MyCIE (Malaysia CIE) is the Working Committee that carries out the project work.
- Division 1: Vision and Colour (headed by Dr John See of QAV)
- Division 2: Measurement of light and radiation (headed by Dr John See of QAV)
- Division 3: Interior environment and lighting design (headed by Mr Tay Hooi Seng of PCO Lite)
- Division 4: Lighting and signalling for transport (headed by Ms Lim Swee Yoong of Straits Design)
- Division 5: Exterior lighting and other applications (headed by Ms Lim Swee Yoong of Straits Design)
- Division 6: Photobiology and photochemistry (headed by Dr Chang Kee Kwong of Real Magic Technology)
- Division 8: Image technology (headed by Dr Tan Ching Seong of MMU)
- (Note: Division 7 was closed down and its activities distributed to the other divisions)
The above list has been updated in the CIE National Committee database & CIE CollTool rooms under the respective divisions for future contacts, in order to have technical interaction in similar subject areas, to coordinate in their future meetings/events and to exchange information on standards development.
Certification of Lighting Professionals
The Committee is in the midst of drafting an education module to train professionals/ manpower for the lighting industry. MyCIE will collaborate with MMU to come out with a structured programme to train the graduates to fulfil the industry manpower needs and train them according to the industry requirements. The training programme will comply with the international standards requirements. The Committee is currently studying the possibilities of certifying lighting professionals as Lighting PE.
Talk on New Frontier in the Standards: 3D Image Acquisition System
On 27th June 2012, the Division 8 Working Group of MyCIE organised a talk on “New Frontier in the Standards: 3D Image Acquisition System” at MMU, Cyberjaya. Some 18 participants attended the talk. The speaker was Dr Tan Ching Cheong, Associate Professor in Multimedia University. MyCIE Treasurer, Mr Narendren Rengasamy chaired the talk and MMU Dean, Associate Professor Dr Wong Hin Yong was also present to give an opening address. The following topics were covered during the talk:
- Introduction – 3D imaging system
- Applications of specific imaging modalities
- Data Storage, transmission & processing
- 3D displays
- New frontier in the industry standards – possible approache
- Research highlight – Active & Passive Systems
After the talk, the participants were taken for a lab tour where they had the opportunity to visit the FOE labs, the centre for advanced devices and systems (CADS).
Talk on Photometry of LED Lighting Devices and Video Conferencing on the CIE System for Mesopic Photometry based on Visual Performance (CIE 191:2010)
A talk on Photometry of LED Lighting Devices and Video Conferencing on the CIE System for Mesopic Photometry based on Visual Performance (CIE 191:2010) was successfully organised on 16th July 2012 (Monday) at MMU, Cyberjaya with an overwhelming 96 participants. The talk was supported by TEEAM and Standards Malaysia. Prior to the talk, MMU organised a Faculty of Engineering (FOE) lab tour, during which the participants had the opportunity to visit most of the FOE labs in MMU to view the research activities, lab facilities and student’s experiments.
The talk on Photometry of LED Lighting Devices was presented by Mr Tony Bergen, an invited speaker from CIE Australia. Thereafter, Ms Teresa Goodman presented on the CIE System for Mesopic Photometry based on Visual Performance (CIE 191:2010) via video conferencing from UK.
CIE Divisional Meetings
Standards Malaysia has agreed to sponsor two delegates each to attend the Division 4&5 Meeting in Blacksburg, Virginia USA and CIE Conference on “Lighting Quality & Energy Efficiency” in Hangzhou, China. Division 4&5 Meeting in Blacksburg, Virginia, USA The Division 4&5 meeting is scheduled from 10th to 13th September 2012 in Blacksburg, Virginia, USA. Ms Lim Swee Yoong and Mr Donny Chan will be attending the said meeting.
CIE Conference on “Lighting Quality & Energy Efficiency” in Hangzhou, China.
The CIE Conference on “Lighting Quality & Energy Efficiency” is scheduled from 19th to 21st September 2012 in Hangzhou, China. Mr C T Siew and Mr Narendren Rengasamy will be attending the CIE Conference.
The main objectives of attending the above two events are to learn how CIE meetings are being organised; to lobby information in various areas; to network and lobby to bring in delegates for the CIE meeting in Malaysia in 2014 and to get prepared for the World Conference in Kuala Lumpur in 2017.
Participation in World LED Standardisation Conference 2012 in Daegu, Korea
The Korea LED Association (KELDA) organised a “World LED Standardisation Conference 2012” in Daegu, Korea on 29th-31st August 2012. In regard to this, MyCIE Chairman, Mr C T Siew presented a paper on the updates on LED standards in Malaysia.
CIE Publications & Website
The Committee has purchased a list of CIE publications to help in the work of various divisions. The CIE publications are now available in the TEEAM library to be borrowed by members for reference. The website of MyCIE is currently under development.
