The 2011 conference and meeting of the Asean Federation of Electrical Engineering Contractors (AFEEC) and the Federation of Asian Pacific Electrical Contractors Associations (FAPECA) were organised in Seoul, Korea. The event held on 4th & 5th October 2011was hosted by the Korea Electrical Contractors Association.
This annual event drew participation from national associations, namely Association of Indonesian Electrical and Mechanical Contractors (AKLI), Hong Kong Electrical Contractors Association (HKECA), Korea Electrical Contractors Association (KECA), National Electrical and Communications Association, Australia (NECA Australia), Pacific Electrical Contractors Association (PECA), Singapore Electrical Contractors and Licensed Electrical Workers Association (SECA), Society of Philippine Electrical Contractors & Suppliers (SPECS), Taiwan Electrical Contractors Association (TECA), Thai Electrical & Mechanical Contractors Association (TEMCA), and TEEAM. An individual member from Kokko Shisetsu Japan, Mr Tsuyoshi Sakanishi was also present.
The conference themed “Green Energy Activities” was timely as green energy is an important industry to tap on. Hence collective effort is necessary to build a sustainable future with the incorporations of modern green technologies which are environment friendly and energy saving. Each country presented a paper on their green energy effort. The conference was beneficial as delegates had the opportunity to understand the green energy market and policies in the Asia-Pacific region.
The 49th AFEEC Council Meeting and 25th FAPECA Executive Board Meeting were convened smoothly. Members had the opportunity to exchange views on issues affecting members, current engineering practices and global trends. The election of AFEEC office bearers was also held. Mr John Tan of SECA succeeded to be the new President of AFEEC for the year 2011-2014. He appointed Mr Edward Kway to be his Secretary General. TEEAM was elected to the post of Treasurer which will be assumed by the President, Engr Fu Wing Hoong.
FAPECA also saw the change of office bearers for the new term of 2011-2014 with the Presidency handed to Mr William Chan of HKECA. Mr Choi Gil Soon of KECA accepted the post of Vice President. Mr Lau Chun Kay will be invited to take over the post of Secretary General after the retirement of Mr George Ko of HKECA.
A business matchmaking session was also organised with the support of Korea Electric Power Company (KEPCO). Delegates had the opportunity to meet Korean manufacturers of T & D equipment. The 24th Electrical Skills Competition of KECA was also organised during that time to promote workmanship and skills of workers from KECA members. Delegates were invited to witness the competition which saw 160 contestants vying for the championship of four events namely overhead line, underground line, power control and interior line. The delegates were impressed by the contestants’ skill proficiency and dedication.
TEEAM delegates wish to record their gratitude to KECA for all the arrangement and their warm hospitality. The event was a fruitful meet to renew friendship, establish new contacts and exchange information on a broad spectrum. The 2012 event will be held in Hong Kong on 4th & 5th June 2012.
