MEMBERS’ ADVISORY – SOP for Safe@Work for Manufacturing and its Related Services Sector
The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged our healthcare capacity and also greatly impacted our business community. TEEAM attended an Engagement Session of MITI with the manufacturing industry on 13 April 2021, and MITI informed that there is a rise in the number of clusters in the manufacturing industry due to lack of compliance to Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). It was highlighted that 29.3% of clusters originated from the manufacturing sector between 23 September 2020 and 18 February 2021. Hence, there is an urgent need to implement an action plan to secure safe working and living environment for workers in the manufacturing sector. Thus, MITI has implemented new comprehensive SOP to create enhanced Public Health Measures @Work (Safe@Work) to empower employers to be accountable for containing the pandemic among workers.
Click here for the MITI SOP for Safe@Work for Manufacturing and its Related Services Sector, MITI Media Statement and TEEAM Members’ Advisory for members’ information and guidelines. Though is voluntary, the implementation of this SOP is strongly advocated. Failure to contain infection at workplace will result in companies being instructed to shut down operations immediately and be subject to punitive penalties. MITI warned that if the industry cannot manage to contain the COVID-19 infection at workplace, operations will be shut down and MOH will come in, and there will be no appeal.
Hence, I would like to strongly appeal to our members to do our part by following strictly the SOPs at our workplaces and the living quarters. We must collectively support the Government’s continued efforts in flattening the COVID-19 curve so as to keep the economy open and thus, the business and employment are not affected. Let’s join force to safeguard our economy and the wellbeing of our nation!
Stay Safe, Stay Healthy & Stay Updates with TEEAM!
Yours sincerely,
Siew Choon Thye
TEEAM President
