A ‘Residential Water Heater Safety’ technical visit to Alpha Electric Co. Sdn Bhd was organised for TEEAM members on 27th July 2017 by the TEEAM Manufacturing Committee. It attracted some 25 members and was headed by TEEAM Vice President, Mr Simon Leong.
At Alpha Electric, members were cordially received by Mr Choo Wei Seng (Sales Manager) and his officials. A welcome address was delivered by Mr Jerry Yeo (Managing Director), followed by a tour of their products showroom and water heater production line. Thereafter members were briefed on a few presentations focusing on water heater safety.
In recent years, there have been many cases of accident related to water heater. Although the main cause for the accidents was never identified as the water heater fault, it is possible for such appliances to cause electrocution. Whenever there is a current leakage at home and the Earthing and Residual Current Circuit Breaker (RCCB) is not functioning properly, the earth wire will be electrified, and this lead to a high chance of fatality caused by the device, which in this regards is the water heater.
The death incidents caused by electricity leakage occur most commonly in the bathroom. Such tragedies could actually be avoided with proper selection of cable and identification of location for the appropriate wiring spot, for safety usage of water heater. This is mainly due to failure to install an electrical circuit-breaker which prevents events of electricity leakage from happening in the first place. It should be noted that for bathroom safety, metallic or chromed hose and conductive control valve of heater are NOT to be used.
After the visit, members enjoyed a sumptuous lunch sponsored by Alpha Electric. It was indeed a beneficial and fruitful visit. Members of TEEAM hereby wish to record their highest appreciation and thanks to Alpha Electric for hosting this successful visit and for their warm hospitality.
