The seminar on “Mandating Workers To Be Certified with Malaysian Skills Certificate” was successfully held on 6th December 2012 at Crystal Crown Hotel, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, with 95 attendees. The timely event was a collaboration between TEEAM and the Department of Skills Development (DSD) under the Ministry of Human Resources. TEEAM was appointed by DSD as an Industry Lead Body (ILB) to conduct skill promotion activities and develop National Occupational Skill Standard (NOSS). President Engr Fu Wing Hoong was present to deliver the welcome address.
The half day seminar featured several speakers including Mr Abdul Karim Rahman (DSD Senior Asst Director) who spoke on “Role of the Department of Skills Development”; Mr Raja Surian Muthu Elandy (Asst Director of DSD) on “National Dual Training System”; Ms Mek Eksah Hj Awang (Manager, Perbadanan Tabung Pembangunan Kemahiran – PTPK) on “PTPK Worker’s Loan”; Mr Mohamed Ramdan Mohamed Yusof (Official of Human Resource Development Berhad) on “PSMB Training Grant”; and Mr Anthony Ng from TEEAM on “Industry Lead Body’s Roles and Responsibilities”.
The seminar highlighted the importance of Malaysian Companies to compete globally towards developing and maintaining a worldclass talent through upgrading skills and certification. As part of the 10th Malaysia Plan, it would be mandatory for workers in selected occupations and trades to possess Malaysian Skills Certificates or its equivalent. The seminar also highlighted the government’s incentives for workers certifications.
The participants were actively engaged during the Q&A session. Mr Mohamad Yaacob (Director of DSD) responded well to the questions with clear explanations. At the end of the seminar, Engr Fu Wing Hoong (TEEAM President) presented souvenirs to the distinguished speakers as a token of appreciation. Overall the seminar was informative and beneficial. The seminar concluded with a Hi-Tea.
