EW, FL & CFL Collection Points
Kualiti Alam is entrusted by the Malaysian government to provide an off-site facility for treatment and disposal of scheduled wastes in Malaysia. KA owns and operates the integrated Waste Management Centre (WMC) at Bukit Nanas, Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan to provide complete management of hazardous waste from “cradle to grave”, commencing from collection of waste at the premises of waste generators, transportation, treatment, to final disposal.
The Department of Environment (DOE) is mandated to ensure that scheduled wastes are appropriately managed by the waste generators and those allowed to collect, store, recycle, treat and finally dispose the waste. Kualiti Alam is the only company authorised by the Department of Environment to collect and dispose hazardous waste. It was also mentioned that there is no recycling of bulbs, as KA crushes the bulbs by using a specialised machine called the Bulb Eater (manufactured by US-based Air Cycle). The crushings, together with the used filter bags (that trap most of the mercury), are mixed with a cement-like material to stabilise them, before being buried within a secured landfill. Whatever leachate that comes out of the landfill is monitored for toxic elements (not just for mercury, but also other harmful substances that are taken care of by Kualiti Alam).
TEEAM has engaged Kualiti Alam (KA) to collect the used CFLs from the drop-off collection points for proper disposal. Those who have large quantities of used Compact Fluorescent Lamp (CFL) & Fluorescent Lamp (FL) for disposal, we encourage them to contact waste contactor directly for proper disposal.
